LEON COUNTY Resources ....

(1) ASF's "Animal Birth Control" program focuses on preventing unwanted births and reducing the number of infant animals surrendered to the Shelter. The program provides vouchers good for a no-cost spay or neuter surgery to needy citizens.

(2) Be The Solution, Inc. - Provides Tallahassee residents low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for companion animals. For more information about the program, including voucher requirements, Visit their website or call for information on voucher requirements.

(3) TREATS, Inc. provides low-cost vouchers for spay or neuter.

ASF and TREATS vouchers are distributed primarily through the Animal Service Center and through city and county animal control officers. A limited supply of vouchers are available each month, and are distributed at the Animal Service Center on the first business day of every month. MANATEE COUNTY Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) Program of the Humane Society of Manatee County Cats are spayed or neutered; vaccinated for rabies and ear notched for identification purposes. This program is available to people who agree to become the "owner" (care taker), take responsibility for the future care, health and maintenance of the cat. MARION COUNTY The Marion County Humane Society Offers "The Pet Parenting Program" EVERY MONTH. The program will teach you how to bring your dog inside and will teach your dog how to live inside with you. Dogs are pack animals. They want to be with their human pack. The PET PARENTING PROGRAM provides:

• up to $200 in fencing materials if needed,
• assistance installing a fence in your yard
• in-home training, if necessary,
FREE SPAY / NEUTER services, immunizations and microchiping in exchange for volunteer service
• humane education for your children.

POLK COUNTY: (Lakeland) the SPCA Florida (http://www.spcaflorida.org/) McClurg Animal Center (8550 Brannen Road South, Lakeland, FL 33813. provides free-reduced cost ($15) spay/neuter for indoor / outdoor cats of Polk County. SPCA Florida loans humane cat traps for a minimal refundable deposit and can provide instructions on how to best trap and care for community cats.  Residents then bring the un-owned felines in a humane cat trap. The cats are spayed or neutered, identified with an ear tip (universal sign that indicates cat has been sterilized/vaccinated and there is a kind person that feeds it and keeps an eye on it for whenever he/she needs to visit vet), vaccinated, given a post-operative pain medication injection, and then returned to their care-givers to be released back into a managed environment. Appointments for community cats are not required, but SPCA Florida requests those animals be delivered in a humane live box trap between 7:00 am and 8:00 am Tuesday through Saturday to the McClurg Animal Medical Center. VOLUSIA COUNTY Halifax Humane Society now offers dog obedience classes! Classes are available on Saturday mornings at the Halifax Humane Society animal shelter.
